CIM Partners with Ordway, Sharing the Joy of Irish Music With Elementary School Students
Center for Irish Music instructors Danielle Enblom (sean nós dance), Danny Diamond (fiddle), Norah Rendell (flute & vocals), and Brian Miller (bouzouki & guitar) and performed two education shows at Sheridan Hills Elementary School, featuring traditional music, dance, Irish language, and song on January 19th.
During the Friday morning performances, kids ages 4-11 were wiggling in their seats, clapping to the beat, singing along on choruses, and shouting Irish language phrases to Danny, who taught them a few words, including how to say “I love Irish music”.
“We are honored to be sharing the Irish music and dance traditions that we love with such a lovely, diverse group of kids in Richfield during their school day.” explained Norah Rendell, CIM’s Executive Artistic Director. “At the end of the show, a girl came running up to the stage to give us each a hug, telling us that she was Irish and her parents are Irish! She was thrilled to see her culture reflected on the main stage at her school.”
The Center for Irish Music would like to send out a massive thanks to Maia Maiden at the Ordway for the invitation to share our music at Sheridan Hills, for organizing, and emceeing this performance opportunity. CIM's longtime friendship and partnership with the Ordway is meaningful to us and we appreciated having another chance to work together.
